Magashule’s former PA due in court on Monday after being extradited from US

JOHANNESBURG – Former Free State Premier Ace Magashule’s ex-personal assistant will appear in a Bloemfontein court on Monday after she was extradited from the US.

Moroadi Cholota has been charged with fraud, corruption, money laundering and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.

Cholota was initially a key witness in a R255 million asbestos tender corruption case in the Free State involving her former boss.

She was charged after refusing to cooperate with the State in the matter.

Cholota, who was studying in the USA, resisted her extradition for over three years.

Interpol South African spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said that without cooperation from the American authorities, this would have not been possible.

“On the first of August, we received what we call a surrendering warrant which is an order which is given for a fugitive to be sent back to the country where they are wanted. We were given seven days and the national commissioner of the SAPS immediately assembled a team and deployed them to the USA. They were sent to the USA earlier this week where they met with USA Marshalls where the handing over took place.”

Cholota will be kept behind bars over the weekend and is due to make her first court appearance on Monday.
