USCIS welcomes 38 new US citizens at Fort Bliss

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) welcomed 38 new U.S. citizens during a special military naturalization ceremony Friday morning, Aug. 9, at Fort Bliss, according to the USCIS Public Affairs Office.

The USCIS says the 38 citizenship candidates originate from the following 12 countries:

Benin

Colombia

El Salvador

Guatemala

Haiti

Jamaica

Kenya

Mexico

Micronesia

Nepal

Philippines

Sierra Leone

El Paso Field Office Director Franklin Garnes presided over the ceremony and administered the Oath of Allegiance.

U.S. Army Commander Col. Douglas F. Baker, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, was present at the ceremony.

“USCIS often participates in naturalization ceremonies at museums, schools, libraries, and other notable locations to celebrate the conclusion of an immigrant’s journey to citizenship and honor their commitment. Ceremonies in honor of national holidays or significant historic anniversaries— like military celebrations — connect new citizens with our nation’s past, while welcoming them as part of America’s future,” the USCIS said in a press release.
