AC Milan returned to Italy on Wednesday after their tour of the USA concluded, and Paulo Fonseca was happy with what he saw from his side as he looks to get his ideas across.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports, the squad will resume training at Milanello on Saturday, exactly one week after their official league debut against Torino, and before that on August 13 will be the last friendly against Monza in the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy.
Fonseca returned from the USA with three of his three victories in the three quite high-profile friendlies against Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona. He relayed his positive feelings after the final game.
“I am very satisfied with the courage that the players are showing, with how they all play. We can already see clear intentions, it is not easy after four weeks of work. The lads have been fantastic, we have to improve a lot, but we are taking the right steps,” he said.
“In my opinion, he played a fantastic game, I like to see how he participates in the game in that position. Christian can play anywhere in attack, he is very intelligent, I have no doubt that this season he will continue to be a very important player for Milan.”
However, the defensive phase still needs to be worked on, in particular the protection that the two midfielders in front must provide. A helping hand for Fonseca should also come from the mercato where the priority is to sign a physical midfielder to put in the double pivot.
