The United States Men’s Basketball Olympic Team kicks off knockout stage play at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France this afternoon. Steve Kerr’s squad will look to move one step closer to a potential gold medal against Brazil in the quarterfinal.
Bercy Arena in Paris, France plays host to this decisive group clash. Tipoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. CT. NBC will carry nationwide coverage in the United States with the contest streaming on Peacock. Let’s break down the odds.

USA vs Brazil: Olympics odds, preview, prediction
The United States has cruised in all of its games at the Olympics thus far. 17 points is the smallest margin of victory in this tournament by Steve Kerr’s men. The Stars and Stripes have successfully answered any questions fans had about the team heading into the Olympics as they’ve shown the world why they’re such heavy favorites to win gold.
It’s not been a great tournament for Brazil so far, and it’s hard to say it was unlucky in drawing the U.S. in the quarterfinals. Aleksandar Petrovic’s group headed to France with hopes of bringing home a medal for the first time in 60 years. Instead, Brazil has lost two of the three games and it can consider itself lucky to have reached the quarterfinals on such bad form.
Let’s dive into the odds for the highly anticipated meeting:
United States vs. Brazil: Quarterfinal odds preview
Time/TV: 2:30 p.m. CT (NBC, streaming on Peacock)
Spread (via FanDuel Sportsbook): United States -26.5
Total: 184.5
Moneyline: United States -50000, Brazil +3500
Analysis: There are a few teams at this tournament that I believe could beat the United States if every bounce falls their way and they play an immaculate game. Even if everything goes right for Brazil, with all due respect, it is not one of those teams.
Gui Santos (3.6 points per game) and Maozinha Pereira (6.9 points per game) are the only “active” NBA players on the South American country’s roster. They played a combined 30 games last season for Golden State and Memphis respectively. A few other players have experience in the Association, but none that even begin to compare to that of the United States rotational pieces.
Brazil hasn’t had a strong showing at this tournament, as we discussed earlier. It has already been defeated by double digits in games against France and Germany, so one can only imagine what the Americans will do.
The spread tells the story. The United States is a 26.5-point favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook and -50000 to win outright. That should come as no surprise given Brazil’s poor showings at the Olympics to date and the fact the Stars and Stripes are winning games by an average of 21 points.
The last two games involving the United States have gone under, so the market has adjusted down to a total of 184.5. I like Kerr’s squad to do much of the heavy lifting here to hit the over, score more than 100 points — as it has done all tournament — and comfortably defeat Brazil to reach the semifinals.
Prediction: United States 109, Brazil 82 (Over 184.5)
Best bet: United States-Brazil OVER 185.5 (-112 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
