4 things to know about USA wrestler Kyle Snyder at 2024 Paris Olympics

Kyle Snyder is back in the hunt for Olympic gold.

The 28-year-old Maryland native and three-time Ohio State national champion wrestler will try for his second Olympic gold medal in Paris after winning gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Snyder enters the 2024 Olympics as the No. 1 wrestler at 97 kg.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will officially kick off Friday and last until Aug. 11.

Snyder is no stranger to the Olympics.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are Snyder’s third, having previously won gold at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, and silver in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Snyder’s gold medal secured him as the youngest United States wrestling champion. He was also the first Ohio State wrestler to win an Olympic medal.

Overall, Snyder has 42 international wrestling competition medals: 30 gold, six silver and six bronze.

According to USA Wrestling, he is just the 11th American wrestler to qualify for three Games.

In four seasons at Ohio State, Snyder developed into one of the best wrestlers in collegiate history.

He was a four-time All-American and three-time NCAA champion at heavyweight. He finished as a runner-up at 197 pounds in 2015 before becoming a three-time national champion. He helped the Buckeyes to a 2015 NCAA team title.

In college, Snyder, a two-time Oho State Male Athlete of the Year, finished with a record of 75-5.

After Paris, Snyder will be honored in Columbus for his career at Ohio State.

Snyder is one of 14 in 2024 Ohio State athletics’ Hall of Fame along with athletic director Gene Smith and football star Braxton Miller.

The group will be inducted Oct. 4 and honored at the Ohio State football game against Iowa Oct. 5.

Snyder’s 97kg wrestling matches will be held Aug. 6-7 and will be broadcast either digitally or on USA Network. A full schedule can be found here.
