Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair named one of USA TODAY’s best bars
Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair is a long-time favorite for locals. Now USA TODAY has named it a 2024 Bar of the Year.

Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair just made USA TODAY’s list of best bars in the country.
The USA TODAY Bars of the Year list — which was released today — features 27 bars (from humble dives to high-end cocktail oases) including the landmark Essex County Irish pub.

“We are grateful to the town and people of Montclair for supporting us for the past 90 years,” the Tierney family said. “We would like to thank our predecessors, dedicated staff and irreplaceable regulars who have truly turned Tierney’s into the place ‘where friends meet,’ and to USA TODAY for this recognition and honor.”

Tierney’s Tavern was chosen because of its inviting atmosphere, secret-menu burgers and nine decades of community history. To residents of the area, the cozy bar is known as “Montclair’s Cheers” — because everyone goes there.
