Taylor Swift has released a statement on the tragic mass stabbing that left two children dead during a Swift-themed dance class in Southport, England, on Monday, July 29.
“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock,” Taylor wrote on Instagram. “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders.”
“These were just little kids at a dance class,” she continued. “I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
The Merseyside Police Chief Constable confirmed that two children were killed during the stabbing, and that nine others were injured, six of whom are in critical condition. Two adults are also in critical condition. A 17-year-old was arrested and taken into custody.
Per the Chief Constable, “We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked.”
Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton also spoke about the tragic event, writing in a statement “As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through.We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack. Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most. W & C”
As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through.

Per People’s reporting, the motive for this horrific attack is unclear at this time and it “is not being treated as terror-related.”
