Michigan reportedly could have a multiple year bowl ban

The Ohio State football program was a victim of Michigan. Several other programs were a victim of their cheating over the last two and a half years. Connor Stalions cheated by filming games in advance and by possibly being on the sidelines in advance for a game as well.

Netflix is already making a documentary about the fiasco. It’s why Michigan’s 2023 national title will always have an asterisk next to it. They couldn’t win without cheating in the first few games before Stalions was eventually found out. Now, they are about to pay a massive price.

There’s a reason why Jim Harbaugh and most of the coaching staff decided to leave in the offseason. They didn’t want to have to stay and face the consequences of the actions that they allowed. If these recent reports are to be believed, the NCAA is about to drop the hammer on Michigan.

According to Chris Balas of TheWoverine.com, the NCAA is looking at banning Michigan from the postseason for one to two years. It doesn’t look like any wins from the past three years will be vacated and the national championship that they won will stand.

Michigan is planning on fighting these penalties. A notice of allegations could be sent as soon as this week as well. This would likely keep them out of the postseason in 2025, not 2024. The appeals process and fighting the penalties would likely keep TTUN eligible for this season.

That would be a steep price to pay for the biggest cheating scandal this century, but it’s not enough. The fact that they get to keep the national championship is alarming. Had the Ohio State football team not been cheated against in 2021, they could have played for a national championship that season. Michigan needs to pay for that.

Warde Manuel will likely fight the allegations tooth and nail. At least we might finally see some concrete punishments being doled out for this egregious act of cheating.
