Smoke from Western U.S. fires to create hazy sky over North Carolina this weekend

The Park Fire in California has grown to nearly 250,000 acres Friday night, according to NBC News. Governor Gavin Newsome declared a State of Emergency, as the fire continues to go uncontained.

There are several other fires in the Western U.S., a part of the country that has been extra hot recently.

The size of these fires has allowed the smoke to rise to the upper levels of the atmosphere. Wind up that high is now carrying the smoke to other parts of the country, including North Carolina.

Saturday (and potentially Sunday), you may see some haze in the sky from these fires. It’s unlikely that we see major air quality issues.

At sunset, you may notice more of a filtered, orange look to the sky. If you get a picture, we want to see it and show it on the news.
