In an interesting story from CBS Sports’ David Cobb, the Iowa State Cyclones received praise for their international recruiting approach.

Cobb listed representatives from each college basketball program, which led to the Cyclones earning the No. 2 spot on the list with five different players representing Iowa State at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The five former players representing the Cyclones are Canada’s Melvin Ejim, Germany’s Nick Weiler-Babb, Puerto Rico’s Isaiah Pineiro, South Sudan’s Marial Shayock, and the United States’ Tyrese Haliburton.

Iowa State has done an impressive job of recruiting players at the international level, and they continue to find success in the space. Recently, two of the players clashed in a head-to-head matchup, with Marial Shayock and South Sudan taking on Tyrese Haliburton and Team USA.

While Team USA put together a triumphant rally to come back and win the game 101-100, Shayock and South Sudan gave the Americans their best competition to date. The former Cyclone was one of the best players on the court in the matchup and finished his performance with 24 points.

Elsewhere, the Cyclones have quickly made an impact in Olympic Competition play, and with five different representatives on five different teams, Iowa State fans should expect to see many more headlines involving Cyclones at the international level.
