Players to Watch: C.J. Williams, Joseph Griffin Jr., Quincy Burroughs, Vinny Anthony, Tyrell Henry
Analysis: Wisconsin has a clear No. 1 outside receiver in Bryson Green and No. 1 slot option in Will Pauling. Those two are sure to lead the team in targets and receiving production. But there is a big opening at the No. 3.
Williams caught just 15 passes for 148 yards in 2023 after transferring in from USC. But he was a former top-100 recruit coming out of high school — so he still has a ton of potential.
Griffin Jr. transferred from Boston College this spring and is one of the team’s more intriguing prospects. His 6’3″ frame will be an asset in the red zone. But questions remain if he can be an every-down receiver.
Burroughs and Anthony, meanwhile, both played reserve roles in a crowded room last season. Both will get more snaps this year, but each may be another year away from capturing a premier role. Henry, finally, transferred from Michigan State this offseason and will likely join the Burroughs and Anthony group in the second and third unit.
This is all mostly projection. What is clear is Wisconsin has at least seven or eight receivers who could realistically land a starting role — and a strong collection that will contend for the No. 3 role besides Pauling and Green. This will be one of the more fascinating positions to watch this spring.
