Ohio State star announces retirement

Former Ohio State Buckeyes star cornerback Gareon Conley was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft after a dominant college career. But it sounds like he is ending his NFL career ahead of the 2024 season after previously signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

According to a report from Dallas Cowboys reporter Todd Archer of ESPN, Gareon Conley has told the Cowboys he is planning to retire from the league.

“I’m told Gareon Conley has informed the Cowboys he intends to retire,” Archer said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Conley was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, but he spent less than three seasons with the team as he was traded to the Houston Texans during the 2019 season. Conley missed the entire 2020 season with an ankle injury and went unsigned for three years, playing for the UFL’s DC Defenders this spring.

After attempting a comeback by signing with the Cowboys this summer and participating in the first three days of training camp, it seems that Conley has decided that it is time to walk away from the game once and for all.
