Report: New York Giants Looking To Upgrade Offensive Line

New York Giants

The New York Giants have had major questions about the offensive line during the offseason. They made major adjustments and decided to sign Jon Runyan Jr. and Jermaine Eluemunor. New York also wanted to sign Robert Hunt this offseason, but he signed with the Carolina Panthers instead. There was a chance that Runyan was going to sign with the Jets, but the Giants had to up their offer to get him to the Giants.

For now, the projected starting offensive line for the New York Giants will be Andrew Thomas, Jermaine Eluemunor, John Michael Schmitz, Jon Runyan, and Evan Neal. A lot can change between now and the end of NFL training camp. This will be one of the biggest things to watch for the Giants during training camp.New York GiantsJanuary 20, 2024; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Green Bay Packers guard Royce Newman (70), guard Jon Runyan (76), and guard Sean Rhyan (75) before a 2024 NFC divisional round game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. The New York Giants had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL a season ago. New York gave up the most sacks in the league. It can not be any worse than what it was a season ago. The Giants fired Bobby Johnson as the offensive line coach. They were not the only team who had issues on the offensive line last season. The New York Jets also needed help on the offensive line in the offseason.

Van Roten is an offensive guard. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, there is a source who told him that Greg Van Roten is visiting the New York Giants. He appeared in all 17 games last season with the Las Vegas Raiders. Van Roten is very familiar with Giants offensive line coach Camren Bricillo.

If the New York Giants were to sign him, he could very well be the starting left guard and Jermaine Eluemunor could very well be the starting right tackle. Giants general manager Joe Schoen mentioned that Jermaine Eluemunor is either going to start at left guard or right tackle this season. Are these signs of the Giants showing no faith in Evan Neal? Neal was horrendous last season and was also dealing with injuries.New York GiantsSeptember 21, 2023; Santa Clara, California, USA; New York Giants offensive tackle Evan Neal (73) blocks San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (97) during the fourth quarter at Levi’s Stadium. He did not perform during off-season activities. Evan Neal was the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Alabama. It appears as if he is on a very short leash for the Giants this season or he may not see the field at all. The signing of Greg Van Roten potentially could mean that the writing is on the wall for Neal.
