Follow our live updates from the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix on Saturday, July 20 for the latest score, news and analysis from the game pitting the WNBA All-Stars against Team USA at Footprint Center.
After a highly competitive first quarter, Team WNBA leads Team USA 24-23 in the 2024 WNBA All-Star game. Team USA led for the majority of the quarter, but a hustle play from Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese led to an offensive rebound and putback that gave Team WNBA the lead to end the quarter.
Mercury guard Diana Taurasi got Team USA on the board first but Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson has led the way posting seven points on 3-for-5 shooting.
Seattle Storm forward Nneka Ogwumike’s eight points on 4-5 shooting has the two high-powered teams neck and neck entering the second quarter.
Both Team WNBA and Team USA are shooting 50% from the field going into the second.
Seconds before the 2024 WNBA All-Star game tipped off at Footprint Center on Saturday night, team WNBA head coach Cheryl Miller left her post, and the PA announcer in the arena said that basketball legend and current Phoenix Mercury Vice President Ann Meyers Drysdale would be team WNBA’s honorary coach for the night.
Meyers, a legend in Phoenix, served as the Mercury’s first-ever General Manager.
Diana Taurasi started off her 11th All-Star game with a bang. In the first possession of the game, she launched and hit a long three to give Team USA the first points of the game over Team WNBA.
Taurasi started for Team USA and is headed to her sixth Olympics in the coming weeks, hoping to defend gold.
Team USA leads 14-9 midway through the first quarter after a baseline jumper by Brittney Griner.
Players on Team WNBA will wear the same uniform number that they were for their WNBA teams. This means that some players will be wearing the same number. Those are Dearica Hamby and Angel Reese (No. 5) and Arike Ogunbowale and DeWanna Bonner (No. 24).
Angel Reese has been enjoying her first All-Star Game as a rookie, but due to the CrowdStrike outage, she won’t be able to have some of her closest supporters in attendance.
“All my friends are here,” Reese said. “Sadly, my mom and my brother weren’t able to come because of the flights so just being able to enjoy this moment and have fun here.”
Reese isn’t the only player affected by the nationwide flight issues. Indiana Fever guard Erica Wheeler had to pull out of Friday’s Skills Challenge when her Delta flight from Atlanta to Phoenix was delayed and then canceled. Her teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, competed in her place and wore Wheeler’s jersey because her Fever jersey was not in Phoenix.
To be announced.

Why is Caitlin Clark not on Team USA?
Cailtin Clark was not chosen for Team USA after the selection committee decided to go with more experience players.
“It would be irresponsible for us to talk about her in a way other than how she would impact the play of the team,” Jen Rizzotti, the selection committee chair said of Clark after the official announcement of the team. “Because it wasn’t the purview of our committee to decide how many people would watch or how many people would root for the U.S. It was our purview to create the best team we could for [coach Cheryl Reeve].”
Clark’s omission from the team was blasted by many people on social media.
