How many athletes have qualified from Colorado

DENVER (KDVR) – The opening ceremonies for the 2024 Summer Olympics start next Friday, and there are going to be plenty of familiar Coloradan faces on the television screen.

U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team players Sophia Smith and Mallory Swanson as well as Boston Celtics’ player Derrick White will be three Coloradans representing Team USA, along with 26 others from the Centennial State who qualified.

In total, over 700 athletes in the United States have qualified for the Summer Olympics as of June 19. Out of all the states, Colorado tied for the sixth-most athletes who have qualified for this year’s Summer Olympics.

Wyoming and Nevada didn’t have any athletes qualify from the state. Meanwhile, other states dominated with 20, and one had over 100 athletes who qualified from their hometown state.

France is ready to host the games.

On Wednesday, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo took a dip in the Seine River to prove the polluted waterway was clean enough to host swimming competitions. Paris sealed off the Seine River on Thursday and troops secured the Seine River for the opening ceremony on Friday.

In one week, the United States will watch hundreds of Americans – with many from Colorado – head to the games to hopefully bring home some hardware.

The full list of athletes and their states is on Team USA’s website.
