When it comes to the 2024 Michigan football team, there is no shortage of breakout candidates, simply due to the fact that so many players are walking into big opportunities.
The Wolverines will have 10 new starters on offense. Technically, the only returning full-time starter from last season is tight end Colston Loveland, who is already being talked about as a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Loveland has been spectacular for the Wolverines. His epic catch in the fourth quarter of the national championship game, the one that set up the first fourth-quarter touchdown by Blake Corum, is a play Michigan football fans will never forget.
The 6-foot-5 tight end is also a reason why Michigan football fans don’t need to worry too much about the Wolverines not having a No. 1 wide receiver. Loveland is going to be that guy. However, the rising junior says there is another tight end that Michigan football fans need to know about.
That’s former three-star tight end Marlin Klein. Klein hasn’t played much for Michigan football but he’s got all the potential in the world and the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder originally from Germany, is poised to be the No. 2 tight end this season, which has been a prolific position the past few seasons for the Wolverines.
“Everyone’s going to see. You’ll see that Marlin, he’s elite — I think so,” Loveland said via Alejandro Zuniga of The Michigan Insider. “… Marlin, he’s never really gotten playing time. He’s going to show out this year. I’m excited to play with him.”
Tight ends coach Steve Casula also said that Michigan football has total confidence in Klein as a blocker and a receiver and it wouldn’t shock me at all if Klein was the latest U-M tight end draft into the NFL following a breakout 2024 season.
