Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Makes Political Stance Clear Before Election

The Kansas City Chiefs have been in the headlines all offseason for issues that don’t involve football.

Right after they won their second-straight Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers, their parade became a horror scene as gunfire sent fans fleeing and praying for their lives. After that terrifying event, the Chiefs continued to make headlines all offseason and they weren’t always for the right reasons.

Second year WR Rashee Rice was one of the biggest stories, as he awaits his fate from law enforcement for leaving the scene of a hit-and-run where he was caught on video. Rice was also involved in a separate physical altercation but charges were dropped.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker became a national story after giving a controversial commencement speech at a private Catholic college where many believed he degraded women and said they should be content taking care of the home, a mindset that was popular years ago but his viewed as derogatory in modern society.

Beyond those two incidents, the Chiefs have had a few other players get arrested for minor charges. If Patrick Mahomes and company are going to pull off three-straight Super Bowl victories, they will need to be focused and eliminate as many off-the-field distractions as possible.

So it’s no surprise with an upcoming election that is sure to spark debate and controversy regardless of who is elected, Mahomes is taking a safe position.

If you’re expecting Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes to speak out ahead of the 2024 presidential election and endorse a particular candidate, you’re going to be waiting for a while.

Mahomes has made it clear where he stands politically – and he’s neutral.

That’s not to say that Mahomes doesn’t have his own opinions – hopefully, he’ll be voting at the polls like everyone else – but he’s not going to make them public. Mahomes has made it clear that he doesn’t believe he should be influencing others in the political arena.

“I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,” the Kansas City Chiefs QB said, per Time magazine.

“I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.”

While Mahomes might take some heat from some for being neutral in public, it’s also somewhat refreshing, as many with a big following feel the need to constantly make their opinions public. Mahomes, meanwhile, is choosing to stay down the middle with his opinions.

Mahomes may not publicly take a side, but it’s fair to note he responded almost immediately after last weekend’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

The message was sent out by NFL Network host Rich Eisen and was quickly shared by the two-time NFL MVP Kansas City Chiefs QB.Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes election, Patrick Mahomes trump. “Thank you to the heroes of the Secret Service who threw themselves into what appeared to be a hail of bullets,” Eisen wrote. “Find whoever did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. None of this is OK. Praying for everyone there in Butler PA”

Superstar defensive tackle Chris Jones also reposted an account that asked for people to “pray” after stating that Trump has “survived.”

Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker simply voiced: “Pray for our country 🙏🏼.”

On the national side, Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer wrote: “Don’t care who the candidate is, this shouldn’t happen in our country. Period, end of story. Just unbelievable.”
