We are halfway through the 2024 Wisconsin football schedule preview! Through six games, I have Wisconsin football at 5-1. Yesterday, I previewed USC, Purdue, and Rutgers. Today, I look at the next three games for Wisconsin football. That would be at Northwestern, home vs Penn State, and at Iowa. Here is a preview of these three opponents.
Wisconsin Football Schedule Preview: October 19 at NorthwesternNov 11, 2023; Madison, Wisconsin, USA; Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Tanner Mordecai (8) throws a pass under pressure from Northwestern Wildcats defensive lineman Richie Hagarty (52) during the fourth quarter at Camp Randall Stadium. Indiana was a pretty bad loss for Wisconsin football as the Hoosiers were one of the worst teams in the Big Ten. I could also make the argument the Northwestern loss the week after at home 24-10 was worse. Tanner Mordecai did come back for that game, but Wisconsin football came out flat. Honestly, it didn’t look like they wanted to play.
At the time, Northwestern was under .500, but was playing better under interim head coach at the time David Braun. He has since earned the full time hard coach position and has earned it. On paper, the Wildcats don’t have a good roster. However, they always play the Badgers tough regardless the venue. I can’t see this team losing to Northwestern this yea, especially the way they came out to play last year in front of the home crowd.
Penn State: October 26Oct 14, 2023; University Park, Pennsylvania, USA; Penn State Nittany Lions running back Kaytron Allen (13) celebrates with offensive linesman Olumuyiwa Fashanu (74) after scoring a touchdown during the second quarter against the Massachusetts Minutemen at Beaver Stadium. Wisconsin football gets another tough home game. This year, Penn State comes to Camp Randall for the first time in a few seasons. As a first year starter last year, Drew Aller had a pretty good year. He threw for 25 touchdowns and only two interceptions, but only for 2,631 yards. He should have a better 2024.
Penn State will rely on their two-headed running back duo. Sophomore Nicholas Singleton rushed for 752 yards and eight touchdowns, but also added 308 yards in the passing game. The other back will be sophomore Kaytron Allen. He led the team in rushing with 902 yards and six touchdowns.
I wrote earlier this summer that Wisconsin football would beat either Alabama, Penn State, or Oregon. I think Penn State is the one Wisconsin football gets between the three.
At Iowa: November 2Nov 4, 2023; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Northwestern Wildcats wide receiver Cam Johnson (14) tries to catch a pass as Iowa Hawkeyes defensive back Cooper DeJean (3) defends during the first half at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-USA TODAY Sports
Iowa might have been one of the more frustrating games to watch last season. The Hawkeyes were horrible on offense outside of an 82 yard touchdown by Leshon Williams. It was not enough as the Wisconsin football offense struggled on offense and did not get stops on defense when they needed it.
I don’t think it’s much of a debate that Wisconsin has the better quarterback, running backs, and wide receivers. So how is Iowa so successful? They have an amazing defense led by seniors Jay Higgins, Nick Jackson, and Sebastian Castro.
Injuries hurt Iowa last season. Wisconsin football did not see starting quarterback Cade McNamara and stud tight end Luke Lachey. Both players suffered season ending injuries. They will look to have bounce back years.
The Badgers have to stop the running game and score points. It seems easy but the Iowa offensive line is always solid and the defense will be one of the best in the country. It might not even take 20 points to win this game. Wisconsin football can win, but I think Iowa wins based on their defense.
