UNC Baseball lands big-time commitment from one of North Carolina’s top prospects

When Scott Jackson resigned as the head coach at Liberty, UNC baseball fans hoped that some of the program’s top current (and future) talents would follow him to Chapel Hill.

Well, their wish has started to come true.

Sawyer Black, one of the top high school prospects from the Class of 2024, has committed to Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program. This comes shortly after Black re-opened his commitment following Jackson’s departure from Liberty.

Perfect Game tabs Black as the No. 3 overall prospect from the state of North Carolina and the No. 1 ranked outfielder the state has to offer. He is also regarded as a top-150 prospect, as he comes in at No. 133 in his graduating class.

Black’s high school team, Wesleyan Christian Academy, featured a handful of Division I talents on the roster, but it’s safe to say that the future Tar Heel was the best among the group. Over 30 games played during his senior season, Black led his team in the following offensive categories: batting average (.453), on-base percentage (.590), home runs (9), runs scored (46), hits (39), RBI (40), slugging percentage (.930) and triples (3).

This is a big-time addition for the Diamond Heels, as Black should challenge for playing time in the team’s outfield right from the jump. He’s an impact player who should continue to do so at the Division I level, as he may emerge as a future star for the UNC baseball program once he begins his collegiate career.
