Missouri out for revenge against Auburn football this fall

2022 was a rough year for the Auburn football program in quite a few ways, but there is one event from that season that Missouri football fans and players will remember for a long time. It was Tigers vs. Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium on September 24, 2022, and it was looking like Missouri would emerge victorious.

The game was tied at the end of the second half, and all Missouri had to do to win the game was make a 26-yard field goal. Inexplicable, their kicker missed, and the game went into overtime. Auburn went three and out to begin OT, meaning a touchdown would seal the deal for the visiting Tigers. Running back Nathaniel Peat carried the ball down the field and reached out to put the ball past the pylon but dropped it just short of the goal line.

Auburn safety Cayden Bridges fell on the ball in the endzone and the Tigers got the touchback, ending the game on multiple disasterous notes for Missouri. And they still haven’t forgotten. During their SEC Media Days slot third-year quarterback Brady Cook was asked about the loss.

“I still feel that one,” Cook said, per Auburn Undercover. “Thanks for the reminder on that.”

Now, with the Auburn Tigers heading into their second season under head coach Hugh Freeze, they are arguably a much more formidable opponent than the Bryan Harsin-led squad of 2022. Still, Cook is looking forward to the rematch on his home turf in October.

‘”Definitely a little bit of payback,” Cook said. “… I haven’t dove into Auburn prep or really taken a really good look at their personnel, but I know they have a good program. I know they can win any given game they play. They haven’t been this strong in the SEC for no reason. They can win every game they play, and it’s going to be fun.”
