The Wisconsin football staff has kept a close eye on a certain 2026 quarterback who’s impressed during summer camps.
Mason West, a 2026 quarterback from Minnesota, has drawn plenty of interest from Big Ten Conference programs early on in his recruitment. West does not hold a scholarship offer from the conference yet, but has drawn attention from nearly half of the teams. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, West broke down his recruitment as well as what his play on the field looks like.

One of the top under-the-radar quarterbacks in the state of Minnesota has begun to make a name for himself among Big Ten Conference programs. 2026 quarterback Mason West has drawn interest early from the Wisconsin football program, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, and Penn State. West also holds three scholarships currently from Kent State, Marshall, and Miami of Ohio.
West is still at an early stage in his recruitment, and hopes the talks he has had with bigger programs will result in scholarship offers after another season on the field.

For West, the recruiting process early on has mainly been about developing relationships with coaches while also attending various camps. When asked about what he is looking out for during his recruiting process, West stated “Just on how they [College Football Staff Members] dedicate their time to help people get to their max potential.
West also stated that it is important a staff will “…always be helpful whether that is on or off the field.”
The Wisconsin football staff has kept contact with West, but have not had many conversations with the quarterback yet. West did however attend a camp in Madison and had the chance to compete against other top recruits while exploring the campus as well. When asked about that experience, West stated “It was cool. I had never been down there and it was cool to see their campus and compete at camp.”
As camp season continues on, West noted that he hopes to attend camps with Michigan, Tennessee, and Oregon in the future, but has not received invites yet.

For the Wisconsin football staff and plenty of other programs, West could become a serious dual-threat quarterback in the future. During this past season, West displayed excellent awareness in the pocket often slipping potential sacks and delivering accurate deep throws. The quarterback not only reads the field well, but also has a great sense for the incoming pressure which displays his mature intelligence for his class.
West also has impressive arm strength, regularly delivering 40+ yard bombs down field to his receivers with solid accuracy. Developing the deep ball accuracy seems to be a goal for West, and it certainly will come with time as the quarterback continues to play. Perhaps the best part about West is his fast, simple throwing motion that makes all of his throws look like he is throwing with ease.
