The 62-year-old environmentalist was given a warm welcome at Daltonganj railway station by government official and other dignitaries of Palamau district, along with family members, on Monday morning.

Pic Gaffney from Australia by presenting them with camphor plants.  The duo was also invited to visit Jaiswal’s birthplace to be part of the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Environmental Dharma Knowledge Temple.

Jaiswal, a transporter by profession, had started his green mission in the year 1966. Speaking to the media, he said that he started his mission at the age of 12 by planting his first sapling on his birthday, and since then, his mission has covered more than 70 districts in 18 states.

“In 1966, the state was in a drought-like situation, and then my father told me it was due to deforestation. At that moment, I decided to plant trees to save forests,” said Jaiswal.

He further added that in the last 52 years, he has planted more than 57 lakh saplings across India, Nepal, and Bhutan. The 62-year-old environmentalist has successfully planted lakhs of saplings without any aid from the government or private agencies.

Talking about his modus operandi, Jaiswal said, “I used to distribute saplings to farmers in the weekly local markets.”
