Thoughts on report B1G and SEC not interested in adding teams

I’m writing the same story repeatedly, responding to the news cycle regarding FSU football leaving the ACC. Last week, it was rumored that FSU was having preliminary talks to join the Big 12 Conference. I told you why you should ignore those reports while other sites like Noles247 openly questioned if it was possible. I’ve been on the FSU will leave the ACC sooner than later, even when others used language like the ACC Grant of Rights was “ironclad,” and FSU “was stuck in the ACC” until 2036. It’s funny we don’t hear that language much, if at all, from ACC supporters who were awfully vocal around this time last year. The latest reports are the B1G and SEC Conferences are not interested in adding FSU and Clemson:

Big Ten, SEC unlikely to add Florida State if it leaves ACC & ACC survives, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. Big Ten & SEC don’t want FSU because adding FSU doesn’t make financial sense, no desire to expand & “they’ve been a disruptive partner,” sources said https://t.co/YhOPDC3O1k

If you understand business and lawyer talk, this means absolutely nothing. It’s mostly the latter with words like “if” and “unlikely,” tied to soft factors like they are a disruptive partner or straight-up lies like adding FSU doesn’t make financial sense. If the ACC survives? In what capacity? Which ACC? The one with teams like Wake Forest, Syracuse, Boston College, SMU, Stanford, and California after other ACC teams bolt for the Big 12? See how that works? There’s so much grey area to work with it’s not funny if and when the FSU officially announces they plan to leave the ACC. Not to mention, we’ve seen this dog and pony show before when other teams left their respective conferences to join either the B1G or SEC. The B1G or SEC CAN’T say anything other than stuff like this UNTIL the FSU announces they are leaving the ACC to avoid tampering and other lawsuits.

Just a friendly reminder.

We’ve seen how this works as recently as last year, and FSU would be more valuable to the B1G than any school they added in the past year before it would break the conference into a region in the backyard of the SEC. Will the SEC allow that? No, they don’t want that at all. FSU has leverage in both scenarios if and when they leave the ACC. Just be patient, and everything will work out. I mentioned that FSU’s new administration has been outstanding over the past few years, and this will be no different.
