We have heard of mishaps or accidents occurring in the middle of the sea or the ocean, as the waters can be extremely unpredictable. But have you ever heard of such incidents at a beach? Not considering Hollywood films, the likelihood of anything out of the norm happening on a sandy beach is low. However, this Florida beach has an entirely different story to tell.
As per the reports of the Daily Star, the beach has been given the title of the “deadliest beach in America” due to the high number of casualties that were reported at the location. Known as the New Smyrna Beach, it is located on the eastern coast of Central Florida. An uncomfortably high number of deaths on the shores of the scenic beach and the waters have occurred because of several reasons.
More reports state that some of the main causes include hurricanes, shark attacks, and difficulties in surfing, which led to several deaths. The New Smyrna Beach came at number one in the top 10 list of most dangerous beaches in the USA.
At the start of July, the officials reported around 400 rescues from the beach in question. It indicates that the incidents took place in a matter of days, due to heavy crowds and the unpredictable rip currents.
Since July 3, three shark attacks have been reported from the region, which earned it the title of ‘shark bite capital.’ In total, around 185 shark attacks were reported, according to the Simmrin Law. Despite this, the biggest threat on the beach is the hurricanes it experiences.

Talking to the media, lawyer Michael Simmrin discussed the reason why the top 10 dangerous beaches were in Florida alone. He stated, “While shark attacks often grab headlines, Florida’s beaches rank so high due to the ever-present hurricane risk.” He added, “Hurricanes create dangerous rip currents and storm surge, raising the overall risk for beachgoers.”
As per him, Americans should prioritise their safety while planning a trip to the beach this summer, since it’s one of the most popular summer destinations.
