ESPN Host Takes Harsh Shot At Colorado Football, Shedeur Sanders – Deion Sanders Fires Back

Ohio State Paul Finebaum

Colorado Football is back in the headlines as ESPN’s Paul Finebaum makes some strong remarks about Coach Prime’s program. Finebaum loves college football, but even more than that, he loves SEC football. This was made further evident during SEC Media Days when he said the following:

“Anyone asking whether Deion Sanders and Colorado are close to the playoffs simply doesn’t understand the reality of the road. They are not going to the playoffs this year, and I’m not sure Deion Sanders is ever going to get them to the playoffs because I don’t think he has the patience to stay at Colorado long enough…

…There’s so many misconceptions out there. Deion Sanders is the best salesman I’ve ever seen. I personally love the guy and what he stands for, but the program looking out has a ridiculously inflated view of itself.

Finebaum went on to later add:

“I heard Shedeur Sanders, who is a fabulous quarterback, say last week, ‘We’re everyone’s Super Bowl.’ Shedeur, you’re not. You’re an easy win nowadays. You got off to a phenomenal start last year, beating a couple of mediocre teams that had big names. And quite frankly, you haven’t done anything since other than crash and burn.”

It takes listening to his show for one hour to see that Finebaum is biased toward the SEC. In his mind, the SEC should have four to five of the seven ‘at-large’ playoff spots every year because it is so deep and strong that nobody else can compete.

Whether or not this is fair is debatable. Yes, he is an ESPN employee (the SEC’s main TV partner) and works specifically for the SEC network, but at the same time, someone of his reputation can really influence how others think on a larger scale.

Some believe that Finebaum is more of a propaganda puppet for the SEC.

Recently, he got into a social media argument with fellow ESPN employee Desmond Howard when Finebaum appeared to be downplaying and criticizing the Michigan Wolverines. Howard said “You can’t take anything he says seriously. You just can’t. It’s like, they march him out there, they pull the string in his back, and he just starts spewing negative things about Michigan.”

Soon after the Finebaum remarks went viral, Coach Deion Sanders took to Instagram and posted a picture of him walking with his son Shilo Sanders with the caption:

“You have no idea what trials, tribulations & prayers that got us here! Don’t ever judge folks because most of the time the story u hear is just the 1st story and that don’t mean it’s the TRUTH just because u hear it first”

He also retweeted Finebaum’s post and wrote the caption, “God is good, my brother, and they are mad! I sense a bit of anger and hostility. Lolololololl God blee RGIII for always keeping it 100%

Say what you want to say about Colorado: Coach Prime loves and defends his team (until they start losing). Coming into the 2024 season, Colorado is one of, if not the biggest question mark not only in the Big 12, but all of college football. With more than 50 new players on the roster, this year’s version of Colorado will look very different than the team they fielded last year.

They are loaded from a pure talent perspective. From a cohesive and actual team standpoint, we’ll have to wait and see.

The Buffaloes were picked to finish 11th in the Big 12 Preseason rankings by the media, and they have one of the toughest schedules in the conference, playing Oklahoma State, Kansas, Utah, Arizona, and Kansas State while avoiding the bottom teams Arizona State, BYU, and Houston.

The Buffaloes will be able to make an early statement in the season taking on North Dakota State, Nebraska, and in-state rival Colorado State.
