Starters: Curt Neal, James Thompson Jr., Ben Barten

Backups: Cade McDonald, Elijah Hills (transfer, Albany), Brandon Lane (transfer, Stephen F. Austin)

Depth: Jamel Howard, Ernest Willor Jr., Dillan Johnson

Defensive line was one of Wisconsin’s biggest weaknesses entering the transfer portal cycle. The program landed two veterans in Hills and Lane — both players who are looking to make the jump from the lower levels of the sport.

The starting trio of Neal, Thompson Jr. and Barten is formidable, plus the position now looks better with the depth of McDonald, Hills and Lane. Still, it is one of the weaker positions on the team. Fickell has talented recruits entering the program in Willor Jr. and Johnson, but the position appears a few years away.
