Two more Texas A&M baseball pitchers headed to the big leagues after being drafted

The hot streak for Texas A&M baseball continues in the 2024 MLB draft, as two more players have come off of the board for the Aggies—both from the pitching staff. The Aggie arms were a pleasant surprise this year, and that uptick in play has apparently not gone unnoticed by the major league clubs.

It’s hard to tell the story of the 2024 Texas A&M baseball team without mentioning how key Ryan Prager has been. Often leading off when the Aggies would play their SEC weekend series, Prager was an important piece of everything A&M did this year. He was the first opposing pitcher to hand the Arkansas Razorbacks a loss when Hagen Smith started, and the Aggies’ lone CWS win came with him on the mound.

All that to say—Prager has earned this opportunity. He was selected 81st overall by the Los Angeles Angels.

With their 3rd-round pick (No. 81 overall), the @Angels select @AggiesBaseball left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager, No. 61 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.

There was some notion that Prager might return, but with him being selected in the third round, you have to think that the Angels feel good about the chance that he’ll make the leap to the majors. Maybe he and Chris Cortez can share airfare to Los Angeles!

The next selection for the Aggies was an unlikely one. Tanner Jones was chosen by the Kansas City Royals in the sixth round, which came as a surprise to some Texas A&M baseball fans. Jones will likely make the leap as well, as I’m not sure many had him projected this high.

The Royals obviously saw something they liked in his game. He didn’t put up the greatest numbers this year at A&M, but he was a deserving weekend starter for most of the year. Here’s hoping he flourishes in the Royals organization!
