The Milwaukee Brewers are one of several teams in the market for acquiring additional starting pitchers.  Bob Nightengale listed them along with the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, Houston Astros, and Atlanta Braves as teams looking to add at least one more pitcher for the stretch run of the season.  Nightengale also reviewed that one popular trade target revealed publicly that he won’t waive his no-trade clause this season.

A popular starting pitcher being mentioned in trade rumors again this season has been starting pitcher Max Scherzer.  Three out of the last four years he has waived his full no-trade clause, but per Scherzer himself this year he will not do so.  Scherzer revealed this information on Foul Territory and believes that the currently below .500 Texas Rangers will start playing better baseball.

.@ajpierzynski12 asked @Max_Scherzer if he would be willing to waive his no-trade at the deadline…again.

“Yeah, I’m not gonna do that…we’re gonna play better baseball. It’s gonna be a moot point to even talk about…we’re gonna win here” #FTLive @BallySportsSW pic.twitter.com/3nucsTK1Hr

Previously Max Scherzer had signed a three year, $130 contract.  He currently is in the final year of that deal in which the Texas Rangers are only responsible for $12.5 million.  Given his pedigree and the fact he is a rental player should he change his mind and be willing to be traded in 2024 he could be one of the most sought after pitchers.

Max Scherzer only recently returned to the big leagues after undergoing lumbar spine surgery.  However the 39 year old has put up good numbers across his first four starts of the 2024 season as he has a 3.09 ERA across 23.1 innings.  He is a known post-season star and would be a great addition for any contending team, but it sounds like he may be staying put with the Texas Rangers this year.
