Mike Elko’s inaugural 2024 season is less than two months away. Unlike many first-year head coaches before him, Elko inherited a highly talented roster while adding nearly 30 veterans from the transfer portal.

During Jimbo Fisher’s final season with the program, Aggie’s offense was average at best, while starting quarterback Conner Weigman’s season-ending injury after four games gave way to former backup signal caller Max Johnson taking the reigns, only to succumb to his season-ending rib injury at the end of the season.

Averaging just over 270.8 passing yards per contest, A&M’s 2023 wide receiver unit is now without Ainias Smith (NFL) and Evan Stewart (transferred to Oregon) heading into this season. However, after adding wide receivers Cyrus Allen, Jabre Barber, and Jacob Bostick from the transfer portal, all three players will join a highly competent presumed starting unit led by junior WR Noah Thomas.

With Conner Weigman returning to the lineup healthy and confident, A&M’s wide receiver rotation will need to step up, especially in SEC play. Still, until we see the results, it’s reasonable to be skeptical. Regarding the rest of the conference, where do the Aggies land in Athlon Sports’ SEC wider receiver rankings?
