Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard was happy to make the Team Canada roster. He will play in the Olympics in Paris this Summer. Canada has a very strong roster as an overall team. They think that they can compete for a medal, specifically a gold medal.
Canada had a scrimmage with Team USA on Wednesday night. While Nembhard didn’t play very well, the experience is still good for him. This whole Olympic experience will be a positive for his overall game and his development as an NBA player. No matter how far Canada goes, it will still be a good thing that he played.
So what can Nembhard learn from this experience that he can take back to the Pacers? What can he do this Summer that will translate into growth next season in the NBA? There are a whole host of things that he can do and he actually already did some of it during the scrimmage with Team USA.
Nembhard showed some aggressiveness on offense against the Americans on Wednesday. He broke out some step-back jumpers and showed that he wasn’t afraid to create his own shot. He’s shown flashes of that for the Pacers in the past year. When he’s aggressive, he can be effective.
Defensively, Nembhard can find out how he measures up against the best guards in the world. He’s going to be counted on more defensively in Indiana than he will offensively since he plays next to Tyrese Haliburton. He has to show that he’s capable of staying in front of players like Anthony Edwards and Devin Booker.
Nembhard saw more minutes on the floor in the scrimmage than I thought he would. He’s going to be a clear part of what Canada wants to do in the Olympics. Being a key cog in the offense and being brought out as a defensive stopper will help him in Indiana.
No matter how far Canada goes in Paris, Nembhard is getting invaluable experience.
