The Wisconsin football has truly fallen in love with the playing style and ability of a certain 2026 defensive back from Texas.
Marcell Gipson, a 2026 defensive back from Texas who holds some rather intriguing offers, has become one of the priority targets for the Wisconsin football staff. Gipson is a dynamic defender on the field who is able to shutdown nearly any receiver that crosses his path. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Gipson spoke about his experiences early on with the Wisconsin football staff.

Over the past few recruiting cycles, the Wisconsin football staff has begun to seriously recruit big states such as Florida and Texas. Previously, Wisconsin had simply offered and recruited the highest-ranked and highest-rated recruits. However, the Wisconsin football staff has now dug to find the gems in the state within the 2026 recruiting class.
One such gem who is yet to have found himself in the rankings is 2026 defensive back Marcell Gipson. Gipson is a dynamic defensive back that truly should be sitting at a four-star ranking currently, if not higher, when he is included in major databases. The recruit has had plenty of attention early on, but Oklahoma State, Oregon, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, and SMU have been the heaviest recruiters.

Early on for the Wisconsin staff, recruiting Gipson has been about showing the recruit what the program can do for him in the future. When asked about his contact with Wisconsin, Gipson stated “Grinch contacts definitely every week type of thing, checking up, sending stats about the school, you know just keeping me in touch.” Gipson noted that he has been in contact with both Coach Paul Haynes and Coach Alex Grinch, but has been primarily in contact with Grinch.
When asked about his feelings regarding Wisconsin and their program, Gipson stated “Man I love the entire status and coaching staff and everything about Wisconsin to be real man.” The defensive back continued to say “Some coaches up there even know my people from when they played ball which makes it even better and easier to communicate.”
For Gipson, communication is something that is needed at the next level in order for proper success. When talking about the recruiting process, Gipson stated he values how a team “communicates and how they are interested” when speaking to him. The defensive back also revealed that the process can be hard at times, but “…you can tell when someone is a must have and just a want.”

As Gipson has made clear, the Wisconsin football staff is thoroughly intrigued with what the defensive back has to offer and has kept a very close relationship. Perhaps the biggest tool in the bag of Gipson that Wisconsin loves is his physical play and agile footwork. Catching Gipson off-balance or finding a way to cross him up is nearly impossible given his skills.
Last season, Gipson dominated on the field and his film showcases a defensive back that can both read and cover the entire field. The Wisconsin football staff sees Gipson as a do-it-all kind of defensive back that can cover a variety of different types of receivers.
