The West Virginia women’s basketball team added forward Feryal Defne Atli ahead of the 2024-25 college basketball season to a grant-in-aid, the program announced.
Atli is from Mersin, Turkey and has played for the Turkish National Team in several different tournaments.
In fact, the 6-foot-3 forward was the youngest player on the 2024 U20 Turkish National Team at just 17-years old.
Atli chose to come to Morgantown because she said that ” I felt really comfortable with coach Kellogg and the rest of the coaching staff. This is a great opportunity to play a role on a championship caliber team.”
Last season, WVU struggled with rebounding, ranking last in the Big 12 in combined team rebounds with only 31.9 boards per game.
The newest Mountaineer will help solve that problem, as she led the U19 Turkish League in rebounding for three-straight seasons.
West Virginia is coming off a strong 25-8 season in 2023-24, as the program made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Head coach Mark Kellogg completed his first season at the helm and picked up impressive victories over No. 25 Penn State, No. 23 Oklahoma, and Princeton.
