Kansas City Chiefs Once Again Encouraged To Sign 5x All-Pro To Help Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to do something that has never been done before in the history of the NFL: win a third consecutive Super Bowl. They have won each of the previous two Super Bowls despite the fact that they do not really have a typical number one wide receiver on their roster. While Rashee Rice showed promise as a rookie, they will likely be without him for a good portion of their season once the NFL hands down its suspension to him for his multiple legal issues from the offseason.

What Kansas City does have, though, is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now in Patrick Mahomes and a future Hall of Fame tight end in Travis Kelce. As they look to repeat as Champions again, these players will be more important than ever, especially with the questions the team has concerning their wide receiver room.

As such, the Chiefs need to do whatever they can to protect these stars and keep them healthy, especially their star quarterback. In order to do this, they may look to free agency to bolster their offensive line.

The Chiefs currently have second-year player Wanya Morris slotted in to be their starting left tackle. However, if Kansas City would like to have a proven veteran, one who (when healthy) is one of the top-two best left tackles in the NFL, they could look to sign former Green Bay Packers All-Pro David Bakhtiari.

Most recently, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report became the latest to suggest Bakhtiari would be a good fit for the Chiefs:

“The Kansas City Chiefs should also be interested. Their Super Bowl window is wide open, but the Chiefs do have questions at tackle after not re-signing Donovan Smith this offseason.

“Kansas City is set to hold a competition between second-round rookie Kingsley Suamataia and 2023 third-round pick Wanya Morris, who played only 37 percent of the Chiefs’ offensive snaps as a rookie.”

As Knox points out, the left tackle position is also a huge question mark for Kansas City this season. With their Super Bowl window still wide open, and with a chance to make NFL history, it would seem irresponsible of them to not at least entertain the idea of adding Bakhtiari.

Singing Bakhtiari, though, does come with some risk. He has played just 13 games in his last three seasons and 11 of those came in 2022. Bakhtiari played just one game last year (Week One) before being shut down for more knee surgeries.

That being said, the five-time All-Pro has stated that his recovery is right on schedule, his knee is finally healthy, and that he will be ready for training camp.

He also said in a recent interview with Adam Schefter that he is only interested in playing for a Super Bowl contender and protecting the next Super Bowl MVP.

The Chiefs are obvious contenders after winning the last two Super Bowls, and Patrick Mahomes is the most recent Super Bowl MVP.

Perhaps taking a flyer on Bakhtiari would not be such a bad idea.
