Ashlyn Harris of Satellite High picked for Florida Sports Hall of Fame

Brevard County’s Ashlyn Harris will be one of eight inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in October.

The Cocoa Beach native and Satellite High soccer star played on winning World Cup teams for the U.S. in 2015 and ’19. She won three NCAA titles with North Carolina, and Harris’ Scorps teams won state championships in 2002 and ’03.

Representing the USA since 1999, she she played every game at goalkeeper for the FIFA Under-19 world championship USA team in 2002.

Harris was drafted into Women’s Professional Soccer by the St. Louis franchise in 2010, and her pro career included a stretch with the Orlando Pride from 2016-21. She was twice named the NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year.

The rest of the inductees are basketball’s Tracy McGrady, golfer Jan Stephenson, football players William Floyd and Scott Hutchinson, track and field coach Mike Holloway, cheerleading coach Linda Gooch and longtime Florida Gators athletic trainer Chris Patrick. The Florida Sports Hall of Fame, created by the Florida Sports Writers and Sportscasters Association, is at the MidFlorida Event Center in Port St. Lucie.
