Oklahoma lands commitment from 2025 WR Cortez Mills

What had been rumored and projected for the last few weeks concerning Oklahoma recruiting in the 2025 cycle came full circle on Monday with the commitment of elite wide receiver Cortez Mills.

A top prospect from the talent-rich state of Florida in the heart of SEC country, Mills is ranked as the 12th best receiver in the 2025 class nationally and the No. 88 player overall, according to the 247Composite rankings. 247Sports rates him as the No. 13 player in the Sunshine State.

Mills, who is from Homestead, Florida, near Miami, brings the length, at 6-feet, 2 inches, the speed and athleticism that wide receivers coach Emmett Jones has been actively targeting on the recruiting trail to complement the Sooners dangerous aerial game.

Jones has earned commitments from four-star wide receivers Mills and Marcus Harris and three-star prospect Emmanuel Choice, all since June 17. Five of Oklahoma’s now 20 2025 commitments are wide receivers. Much earlier in the cycle, OU picked up four-star WR Elijah Thomas, rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in Oklahoma, and three-star WR prospect Gracen Harris. In fact, Thomas and Gracen Harris were among the first OU 2025 commitments.

Mills’ commitment was the biggest coup of all. One of the biggest high school stars in Florida, the talented wide receiver received scholarship offers from 40 different schools, which he narrowed down to five: Clemson, Florida, LSU, Nebraska and OU. As recently as a month ago, Clemson was the betting favorite, but the yeoman effort of Jones in building a strong relationship with Mills, greatly aided by the official visit the 2025 recruit took to Norman in the spring began to turn the tide toward the Sooners.

“Oklahoma came in a little later than other schools, but they recruited me hard, they got to know my family and that was important.”

Mills plays for one of the top high school teams in the state. His junior season last fall at Homestead High School, he caught 79 passes for 1,640 yards and 18 touchdowns.

With the addition of Mills, Oklahoma jumped Texas A&M and Oregon into 5th place in the 247Sports 2025 recruiting class rankings. The Sooners currently sit No. 4 in the Rivals 2025 recruiting rankings.

Mills’ commitment beautifully coincided with Oklahoma’s first official day as a member of the Southeastern Conference.
