With football season right around the corner, preseason lists have begun coming out over the past couple of weeks. Most recently, On July 1st, the Walter Camp preseason All-American teams were released. The Walter Camp Football Foundation was founded in 1967 to help continue the tradition of selecting an All-American team each year.
In this season’s preseason edition of the All-American team, Luther Burden was honored as the lone represenative from Missouri. He was selected as a second-team representative, along with UNLV wideout, Ricky White III. The first-team selections included Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona), and Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State).
Luther Burden is coming off a 2023 season where he gathered 1,212 yards, good for ninth in all of college football. Burden lead all Mizzou receivers last season with nine touchdowns, while compiling 86 catches. Missouri figures to have an even better offense next year, which should take some of the attention off of Burden.

Burden has established himself as one of the best receivers in the sport heading into the 2024 season. He has received comparisons to established NFL players ,like Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, for his exceptional physicality and athleticism.
Despite Burden being the only representative on the preseason All-American team this year, Missouri was well represented at the end of season selections last season. Missouri running back, Cody Schrader, and defensive back, Kris Abrams-Draine were both honored with second team status. It is clear that the program has begun to re-establish itself in recent seasons, and these All-American teams are just one example.
Luther Burden will likely elect to declare for the NFL Draft after this season, making 2024 all the more important for him. He has been getting attention as arguably the best receiver in this draft class. It will be fun to watch him improve this season, as the sky appears to be the limit for Burden.
