Monday night, Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Mike Young was awaiting word from a four-star small forward to announce his decision. In the end, Jaylen Harrell from CATS Academy in Braintree, Mass. decided to remain in New England and commit to Kim English and Providence.
Tuesday afternoon, a four-star recruit for the Hokies made his decision and this time the decision went in Young’s favor when talented big Christian Gurdak committed to Virginia Tech in the Class of 2025.
Last month, Gurdak took an official visit to Blacksburg before making a trip to South Bend, Indiana to visit Notre Dame. In the end, the 6-foot-9 center who will be entering his senior season this fall at Gonzaga High School (DC) picked Virginia Tech over the Irish, Maryland, Iowa, Clemson and others.

He is the 98th-ranked player according to 247Sports and the fourth-ranked player in D.C. He is the second Top 100 recruit in as many seasons that Young has got with current incoming freshman Ryan Jones committing to the Hokies over his hometown Florida Gators.
Gurdak is the second Class of 2025 recruit that Virginia Tech after Sin’Cere Jones of Portsmouth, Va. committed last month and now Young has a center and power forward currently committed in the class, which is a very good start. Now the coaching staff can turn their recruiting efforts in the class to wings and guards as they build a roster for the future. Virginia Tech first offered Gurdak when he was 14 years old so he has been someone that has been on their radar for some time and made him a priority in his class.
