Ole Miss adds Illinois OF Ryan Moerman via the transfer portal

Ole Miss baseball is fighting attrition with the portal for now while waiting on the MLB Draft. On Monday, the Rebels added Illinois State infielder Luke Cheng. And on Tuesday, the roster added another from the Land of Lincoln. Illinois outfielder Ryan Moerman announced his commitment.

Moerman is a career .276 hitter for the Illini. In three years he totaled 31 home runs, 21 doubles, 104 runs batted in and finished with a .530 slugging percentage. Despite hitting just .259 in 2024, Moerman blasted 19 home runs and finished with 53 RBIs.

Ole Miss is looking to replace Andrew Fischer for 2025. The Duke transfer led the Rebels with 20 home runs and 57 runs batted in this season.

His isolated power numbers were in the 95 percentile. He was also in the 81st percentile or above in several categories:

OPS (.950)
wOBA (.411)
wRC (49.44)
wRAA (9.23)
R/PA (0.21)
wRCE (56.39)

Moerman slashed .259/.370/.580 and was second in the Big Ten with 19 home runs. This number tied for third-most home runs in a single-season in program history. Furthermore, he is one of five players in Illini history to have at least 19 home runs in a single season.

He had a monster series at Purdue to help clinch Illinois’ Big Ten championship. Over the weekend, he went 6-for-14 (.429) with five runs scored, three home runs and seven runs batted in, homering in all three games.

Illinois finished 18-6 in the conference and 35-21 overall.
