UNC Baseball earns commitment from reigning in-state Gatorade Player of the Year

When Justin Haire left Campbell to take the head coaching position at Ohio State, the Camels saw a drastic change with their future roster.

More than 25 Camels players entered the transfer portal and others de-committed from the program, including reigning North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year Camron Seagraves.

Seagraves, a right-handed pitcher, decided to explore his options and quickly decided to call Chapel Hill his future home.

Seagraves announced his commitment to Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program on social media. Forbes posted the announcement below on his own X account.

Seagraves was dominant during his senior season at Grace Christian School, leading the program to a 20–7 record and a state championship. Individually, the right-hander was named to the NCISAA 3-A All-State team. Overall, Seagraves posted an 8–2 record with a 1.71 ERA, striking out an astounding 127 batters in just 65β…“ innings of work. To put his dominance into perspective even further, opposing hitters put together a .116 batting average against him.

Needless to say: not many batters reached base against him!

The UNC baseball program had success this season with some of their young pitcher, as freshmen Folger Boaz (prior to his season-ending injury) and Jason DeCaro made big impacts as starting pitchers for the Diamond Heels. North Carolina is set to bring back both Boaz and DeCaro along with some other key contributors, but you simply can never have enough pitching.

Based on what he accomplished during his high school career, don’t be surprised if Seagraves is the next in line to make a huge impact once he arrives in Chapel Hill this fall.

The UNC baseball program is set to lose a lot of talent offensively, but the pitching staff remains very much in-tact. Along with some key additions (such as Seagraves), the Diamond Heels are poised to have arguably one of the best pitching staffs in the country heading into the 2025 season.
