In win for Trump, Supreme Court immunity ruling will delay trial. What’s next

The Supreme Court ruled Monday in a 6-3 split along ideological lines that Donald Trump is immune from prosecution for official acts but that immunity may not shield all his efforts to overturn the 2020 election while president. The court returned his case to a trial judge to decide which acts may be prosecutable. The process is subject to further appeal and will probably delay a full trial in D.C. beyond this November’s election rematch with President Biden.

Here’s what to know about what happens next in Trump’s case with special counsel Jack Smith and how the ruling may affect his three criminal cases in Florida, Georgia and New York.
