Patrick Mahomes’ Mom Reveals Her Early Concerns About Andy Reid

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid will go down as one of the greatest duos in not only NFL history, but sports history altogether. However, Mahomes’ mom, Randi, revealed she was skeptical about Reid early in Patrick’s career.

Appearing on The Mom Game podcast with Julie Dobbs and Emily Jones, Randi admitted she didn’t think Patrick should scramble around as much as he does.

However, Patrick assured her that Reid was comfortable with his freelancing. Three Super Bowls later and thank goodness Reid supported the unconventional approach.

“Even the first couple years with the Chiefs, I would say I don’t think you’re supposed to do that, like scramble around, running around,” explained Randi. “He was like, ‘Coach Reid (said) it works, do it.’ I’m like, okay, but I don’t think you’re supposed to do it, but okay.”

Mahomes is off to the best start by any QB in NFL history with an opportunity to become the first to ever lead his team to three consecutive Super Bowls.

Reid continually tries to push his superstar, even urging him to attempt a behind-the-back pass in the middle of a game. For a coach to have that kind of confidence in his QB is special and something that Chiefs fans shouldn’t take for granted.

It’s fair for Randi to question her son’s antics on the field. He often looks like he’s about to get sacked before pulling off a miracle throw, and his ability to turn nothing into something is unrivaled in the league. Reid deserves credit for unleashing Mahomes, though the QB’s wizardry makes it all happen.
