Keon Coleman is a trendsetter.
This isn’t a necessarily new phenomenon, as his fashion sense has been an oft-discussed topic since the Buffalo Bills selected him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He donned a stylish yellow jacket that he found on sale at Macy’s during his introductory press conference, the coat prompting a good-hearted frenzy in Western New York that resulted in its painting on a downtown Buffalo mural.
Another Buffalo rookie—this one from a different sport—recently took stylistic inspiration from Coleman, wearing a puffy yellow jacket akin to that of the wide receiver after being selected in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft. The Buffalo Sabres selected Konsta Helenius, a Finnish center who put up 36 points in the Finnish Elite League last season, with the 14th overall pick, the prospect donning a Coleman-like coat after his selection.
Helenius even gave a shoutout to his fellow Buffalo rookie in the 30-second clip. You can watch the video below:

We’ll hope—for Helenius’ sake—that he watched Coleman’s draft tips video after Friday’s event, as it was full of invaluable advice that any Buffalo rookie would find helpful (such as the ‘tip’ that people in Western New York have pools).

Both prospects figure to factor prominently into their respective team’s futures. Coleman projects as the centerpiece of a revamped Buffalo receiving corps that parted ways with Gabriel Davis and perennial Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs in the offseason, with the Bills hoping that the trait-sy 6-foot-3 pass catcher can make an immediate impact as their X wide receiver. Helenius joins a stacked Sabres prospect pool that’s, frankly, becoming a bit overcrowded—it’s difficult to imagine the team ultimately having roster spots for all of their talented youth.
Western New York sports fans will have their first opportunity to watch both Helenius and Coleman next month; the Sabres’ development camp commences on July 1 at the LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo, while the Bills will kick off their 2024 training camp at Rochester’s St. John Fisher University on July 24.
