Florida outfielder Michael Robertson enters the transfer portal

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators starting centerfielder Michael Robertson is entering the transfer portal, Gators Online has learned. Robertson is only a redshirt sophomore but has already graduated from the University of Florida, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in May 2024.  He will have two years of eligibility remaining and is draft-eligible.

Roberston has had a flair for the dramatic play at Florida. He made a spectacular catch to end a game against TCU in the 2023 College World Series that sent Florida to the final series. This year, he delivered the single that walked the Gators off against Clemson in the Clemson Super Regional.

Robertson missed his freshman season with an injury. He returned to the team in 2023 and saw action in 66 games while making 56 starts in center field as a redshirt freshman. Robertson reached base safely in the first 28 games of his collegiate career, good for the longest on-base streak of any Gator during the 2023 campaign. He slashed .231/.360/.280 across 186 at-bats and totaled one home run, one triple, four doubles, 41 runs, 19 RBI, 33 walks and 11 stolen bases.

Last season, Robertson split time with Liberty transfer Jaylen Guy but both struggled to secure the starting role. It would be Robertson who won out, playing in 58 games including 48 starts. He slashed .256/.341/.318 with 44 hits, 12 doubles, two home runs and 26 RBI. He also swiped 16 bases during his college career at Florida.

Replacing Michael Robertson

The Gators have already added two outfielders in the transfer portal, which will help fill in where Robertson leaves off. Florida has added Miami’s Blake Cyr (who can play in the infield as well) and Stetson’s Kyle Jones.

Cyr was only able to play in 25 games for the Canes last season due to injury. Despite breaking his thump in April, he still slashed .284/.397/.537 with seven home runs, the infielder played just 25 games. As a freshman at Miami, Cyr, played in 59 games. He slashed a stellar .306/.420/.628 season. Cye hit 17 home runs and drove in 63 RBI’s as one of the best hitters in the ACC. Cyr posted 18 multi-hit performances and 19 multi-RBI efforts, while registering a .427 on-base percentage and .620 slugging percentage. He was named to the ACC All-Freshman team.

Jones is coming off of a tremendous freshman season for the Hatters.

He finished the season leading the Hatters with a .355 batting average. Jones also posted a .459 on-base percentage. He drove in 32 runs, swiped 23 bases and hit five home runs as a freshman, which led him to being named ASUN Freshman of the Year.
