The upcoming release of the new College Football 25 video game has coincided with a slow release of certain aspects of the game.
One of the small parts of the new game is the ratings of every team. Every player and team is given a specific rating, maxing out at 99 overall. College Football 25 and EA Sports have released their rating of what they deem to be the top-25 offenses and the top-25 defenses in college football for 2024.

Despite a 4-8 finish last year and an offense that ranked 60th in the nation in points per game, EA Sports listed the Colorado Buffaloes as the eighth-best offense in the nation.

Their 89 overall rating implies that the Buffaloes are equal to the Ohio State Buckeyes on offense. They also made the list in lieu of the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines.
The Buffaloes ranked dead last in the nation when it came to rushing, averaging a measly 68.9 rushing yards per game. They were 82nd overall in total offense with 363.6 total yards per game.
One aspect of the Colorado offense that helps their case is their passing game with quarterback Shedeur Sanders at the helm. They were 16th overall in passing offense, but only one team in the nation allowed more sacks than the Buffaloes did in 2023. Colorado allowed 56 sacks, making them one of three teams to allow more than 50 sacks on the season.

EA Sports and College Football 25 have the Colorado Buffaloes’ defense ranked 20th in the nation. The 4-8 team might have had a claim on offense with a top-tier quarterback and pass catcher, but their defense in 2023 showed almost no indication of deserving a top-25 rank.

The Buffaloes ranked 124th in points per game allowed by letting other teams put up 34.8 points per game on their defense. Their total defense was nearly dead last at 130th in the nation by allowing 453.3 yards per game.
Colorado was 110th in rushing yards allowed per game and 127th in passing yards allowed per game. While head coach Deion Sanders worked hard to bring in several top-tier recruits, it is hard to see them making a 100-spot leap in defensive statistics in just one offseason.
The Buffaloes only held their opponents to under two scores a few times in 2023. They allowed the TCU Horned Frogs, Stanford Cardinal, USC Trojans, Oregon Ducks and Washington State Cougars to score more than 40 points on them. The Group of Five Colorado State Rams scored 35 points on their defense.
Sanders and the Buffaloes are bringing in a new defensive coordinator which could be affecting the ranking, but former Cincinnati Bengals assistant coach Robert Livingston has no experience being a coordinator at the power five level. Livingston explained the outlook for the Colorado defense in an article from Sports Illustrated.
“I can promise you we’ll put a product on the field that will make you proud to be there, Livingston said via CUBuffs.com. “I can promise you we’re going to do great things…you don’t want to miss out. So if you’re not on the train at the beginning, there ain’t gonna be no room at the end. It’s a day by day process.
“We’re phenomenally blessed. From the moment I’ve been here, this community has been as supportive as anything I’ve ever seen. And I just can’t wait to put a product out there and be a part of something bigger than myself that all of Buff Nation can be proud of.”

Many fans are speculating as to why the Buffaloes are being ranked so high in College Football 25 by EA Sports. Many think it is due to the disproportionate amount of media attention head coach Deion Sanders brings to the Buffaloes.

EA isn’t even hiding the fact that they’re kissing Colorado’s a** in this game. A team that was 4-8 and had quite a few embarrassing losses.

The rankings of teams and players are subject to change as the season goes on, but fans are still upset about the favoritism shown to the Colorado Buffaloes.
